Curatorial House had to function as a home yet, impart a boutique hotel vibe with a sense of modern and sophisticated luxury.

Your first project is quite grand, can you tell us a little about the client?

The owners of Curatorial House have built a thriving business from the ground up, and this home reflects their success.

It is an exceptional residence, designed with the broader family in mind, like a family hub to host many special occasions, visiting guests and enjoying quality time with the new additions to the family.

What was the brief?

From the commencement of this sizeable project, it was clear that every object specified for the interior must harmoniously converse with the sleek and luxurious interior design by Taylor Pressly Architects.

This project symbolised a thrilling new chapter for the homeowners, which was ideal as an Interiors Curator, as it allowed me to craft the collections without limitations.

Clothing and kitchenware were the client's only belongings brought to their new home, resulting in a complete high-end turnkey experience at handover.

You won't find any timber or painted surface throughout the entire build; the exterior and interiors are cladded with some of the most exquisite natural stones in the world, from the floors and walls to the custom cabinetry.

An unequivocal design preference of the client; however, an exception was made for the custom 5.4m formal dining table, designed with a timber top and stained black, as a stone table top would have conflicted with the stone floors in the room.

As controversial as this may sound to most people, I think timber is an overrated and overused material, so this brief was a fantastic fit for my minimalist aesthetic. An absolute dream client who was not only decisive but had a sharp eye for design, and as the project progressed, so did their trust, demonstrated at a meeting when they announced we have the same taste.

This sense of trust and alignment of design preferences has led to additional residential projects for other family members.

Curatorial House was a unique opportunity to curate a distinctive collection of furniture, accessories and artwork, some of which have never made it to Australian shores.

Bold and vibrant artworks by early to mid-career artists were selected to provide a sense of movement, excitement, and colour to the home's overall experience.

What was the journey you took your clients on? How involved were they in the design process?

From the beginning, the client completely immersed themselves in the project, a level of involvement that contributed to a successful result surpassing expectations.

It's not often in life that you refurnish a new home, so I aimed to deliver an enjoyable and stress-free experience for the client as much as possible.

With the relentless strains of building a home, I felt this stage of the project ought to be fun and exciting. Of greatest importance was evoking a strong emotional reaction and connection to the collections curated.

I wanted the client to love every item meticulously chosen for their home. Frequent and open communication kept my client informed and aware of every step along the way, and together we worked effectively and in sync.
